Why batch numbers beat brand claims
Aug 18, 2026 · 3 min read
Two kinds of claim
A brand-level claim — “99% purity, third-party tested” — describes a position. It says nothing about the specific vial in front of you, because production runs vary and a single historical test cannot cover material made later.
A batch number is different. It identifies one production run, and when it resolves to a dated, laboratory-signed report for that run, it describes evidence about the exact material in hand.
How we structure the catalog
Every item in our catalog carries the batch number of the material currently in stock, and each batch number resolves to its own certificate of analysis with the testing laboratory, method and test date.
When a new lot enters stock, the batch reference changes with it. We do not present a previous lot's report as evidence for current material — the report and the vial must match.
The check any researcher can run
Read the batch number on the vial label, then look it up against the published certificate. If the numbers match and the report is dated, laboratory-signed and method-complete, the claim is verifiable. If any of those are missing, it is not.
This note describes analytical documentation only. Materials supplied by Basic Tides are for in-vitro laboratory research only — nothing here is guidance for use in humans or animals. For the underlying framework, see our research standards.
